| Middle East 09/10 Championship (Sponsorship update) (18 Nov 09) |
| I am pleased to announce Westminster Gulf are now the principle sponsor of the 09/10 Middle East Series. With this sponsorship we will now be able to offer the overall and class winning paddlers substantial trophies. I am also aiming to financially help the leading one or two paddlers of the series compete in a high profile overseas race representing DSKC and Westminster Gulf. |
| International Races (02 Nov 09) |
| For a bit of general information about what is going on locally I thought I would highlight the fact that quite a few of our local paddlers will be competing in some of the high profile International races that will be taking place over the next couple of months. |
| Middle East 09/10 Championship (27 Sep 09) |
| Rules and regulations for the Middle East 09/10 Championship.
We hope to run a total of 8-10 high profile races in the series over the season which will also include the Dubai Shamal as a point scoring race. The races will be in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Muscat and Musandam. It is not expected that everyone will be able to paddle in all of the races but the more races you can compete in the better you will do in the series.
We have a potential sponsor to help support the series and all being well we would like to be able to offer a substantial cash incentive to help the the Championship winning paddler compete in a high profile overseas race such as Molokai representing the UAE and DSKC. More on this to follow when we have secured the sponsorship money. |
| 2009 Paddle with Sole summary....... (08 Jun 09) |
| Last Friday June 5th saw the titanic annual contest take place between the Emirates surfskiing community and Dubai's road running coalition.
Ideal balmy weather conditions facilitated the throwing down and acceptance of the gauntlet.
36 paddlers and 82 runners set off on time. An excellent contest ensued, with the runners just pipping the paddlers.....AGAIN.
The coveted trophy thus remains with Dubai's runners. A feeling akin to Australia losing the Ashes has descended on the paddling community.
Preperations for next years contest have already begun by the paddlers. All options and opinions welcome...
A big thank you to Iain & Stuart Gordon for all their hardwork in ensuring the contest took place smoothly.
I would also like to thank Dubai Offshore Sailing Club for allowing us to have the finish there. The breakfast provided as well, was alos excllent in quanity and quantity |
| Al Gharbia water festival race in Aub Dhabi's western region May 1st 2009 (02 May 09) |
| The Al Gharbia race was held at Mirfa last weekend. An excellent high quality entry of 24 paddlers. Entrants from Dubai's 3 clubs , Abu Dhabi and Muscat.
In the mens 20km open race, it was a extremely tight race with the top 5 paddlers having to engage advanced tactics to offset each other. A thoroughly enjoyable race for the large crowd of spectators to watch. Thank you to Stuart Gordon for the photo's
The ladies 10km race was also excellent with skill and sheer determination vieing for the 1st prize.
There were numerous other categories of races as well. A great day was had by all.
Mifra is a lovely location and and a great place to visit. The Al Gharbia event organisers have been requested to repeat the event again next year, preferably a month earlier, to take advantage of prevailing weather conditions.
Thank you very much to all the entrants and event organisers. |
| Results of 4th race of social series (18 Apr 09) |
| Friday April 17th saw the 4th and final race of Martin Browns social series take place.
The 9 single plus 1 double team entrants had a fine time with navigational improvisation and the offshore winds providing plenty of mental and physical stimulus. Martin handed out prizes for the following categories. 1st overall points wise in the series - Paul Mauger. Most improved Firenc Boros and most enthusiastic, Becky in the doubles.
A big thank you to Martin Brown for organising the series and a big thank you to all the entrants who entered and helped make the series such fun. Another social series will be arranged soon. See you all on the water. |
| 3rd race of social race series A day of fun and suprises (12 Apr 09) |
| Fine cool blustery weather from the north set the tone for the 3rd race last Easter friday morning. Consensus of opinion of the 21 entrants was that the race should be a slow paddle out in to the wind for 5km and then dash back to the dskc beach taking advantage of the superb prevailing down wind conditions.
A welcome new comer to Dubai paddling is Haydon Smith. Haydon arrived in Dubai 2 weeks ago and delighted competitors and spectators alike with a seemingly effortless performance that was food for thought to all of the ME paddlers.( Haydon is a world ranked Ironman ).
Not only did the entrants and their families enjoy the race, but the Easter breakfast as well that was provided by Eva. Thank you very much Eva.
The 4th and last social race of the current series will be held this Friday at dskc beach at 0800 followed by a prize giving ceremony. Please can all entrants check their points tally to see their positions after 3 races. |
| Update on the social race series currently being held (05 Apr 09) |
| The 2nd race of the 4 race social series last Friday attracted a large and very enthusiastic field with 3 doubles entered as well. All categories of paddlers continue enter which is excellent ( thank you very much Martin Brown ) Please note that the results in this race seies count toward the 2009 club championship competition ( this competition is open to all members registered on the dskc website, no matter where your ski is racked ) so please take care. Some low key paddlers are gathering points whilst some higher profile paddlers bask on the beach !!
This Friday is Easter Friday and it has been suggested that we hold a small barbique breakfast on the beach after the race. Eva will be sending out a email in this regard later today. Depending on feedack, please expect to receive a sambo and coffee/tea cooldrink. All wives / children etc more than welcome. We hope the response will be sufficient to hold the breakfast. See you all on the water. |
| Results of the first race of the Social race series (29 Mar 09) |
| The 1st race of the initial series of 4 social races took place last Friday. Location was the balmy dskc beach at Jumeriah. 0800 start and the route was around the Burg Al Arab and back. The skis on the trailer are being placed there due to member inactivity so as to make way for active club members. These skis will be locked onto the trailer ( contact Pete 050 6406 087 to have them unlocked). We will attempt to contact the people concerned so that the skis can be removed as soon as possible. Any skis placed in bays that are not allocated to them will be removed and placed on the trailer. Sorry if this sounds harsh but the rack allocation at the club is a mess and needs to be sorted out. This allocation will be final until Jan 08.
Keep Paddling
